Hateocracy in Spain

Argentine journalist Luciana Peker warns about the growing influence of the extreme right in Spain and its role as “chess piece” to connect and enhance hate speech between Europe and America. At a presentation of his book “hateocracy: At the bottom right” in Madrid, Peker denounced that the extreme right operates as a “monster with tentacles” and that Spain is the key point to connect and promote hate speech between both continents.

According to Peker, “Spain is the new obsession” of the global extreme right, and their participation in international events, such as the attendance of the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Diaz Ayuso, to an event at Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump's private residence in Florida, is an example of this gear. “The extreme right preaches about the traditional family, attacks reproductive rights and they live, mostly, apart from the model they defend”, Peker denounced.

The journalist also defended the need to intervene against the “techno-oligarchs” and put Brazil as an example of sovereignty. “The only country that has stood up to him saying, 'They are not the owners of the world. This is not a country that kneels', was (President Luiz Inácio) Lula (da Silva) and it was Brazil”, remembered. Addressing youth radicalization, Peker acknowledged that “young men were clearly the driving force of (the victory of) Miles in Argentina”, a phenomenon that is also observed in Spain with the increase in support for the extreme right among that population sector.

Regarding the situation in your country, Peker responds that “in Argentina there is no polarization, there is paralysis”, something that can only be broken by returning to the encounter and critical reading. The Argentine journalist requested political asylum in Spain after receiving death threats after the Argentine president, Javier Miley, assumed the presidency.
